May 3, 2011- Sandra Lee Gallery is proud to present The Abstract, a Juried Exhibition featuring esteemed Juror Phil Linhares, Chief Curator of Art, The Oakland Museum of California. The show will be on view at the gallery June 1st through June 27th, with an opening reception and unveiling of the first place prize taking place on Thursday, June 9th from 5:00 - 7:30 pm.

Sandra Lee Gallery's foremost concern has always been to represent local, Bay Area talent and to promote a healthy dialogue between artists, art lovers, and collectors in our flourishing community, and June's exhibition will further that mission. The Abstract, which was open to California artists only, attracted over 350 applicants whose work spanned various mediums, subjects, and points of view. With such a diverse selection of works on display, this exhibition will showcase and celebrate the strengths and abilities of home-grown, California artists.

Due to the overwhelming response of high quality works for this show, the artist that wins the first place prize will be awarded a future solo exhibition at Sandra Lee Gallery. The decision of first place and announcement of the title will be made by Juror Phil Linhares during the opening reception on Thursday, June 9th.
